I too would like to know how well the AP1200 handles the 11" F15 as I'm casting around for an upgrade from the old Cave for my 11" F12. Parallax makes some very interesting big mounts as well.

I'm with you except that I am looking further South.
I have spent most of the summer this year looking at land from San Antonio to Tucson, from the border to Flagstaff.
I have not found the right property yet but I'm looking. If snow is a regular occouring event count me out!
Try the Junction TX area. Not quite in the desert-like area, and also not as much wind. Plenty of small trees, very few people. It's where I'm going someday. Hill country of Texas, and within a relatively short driving distance to San Antonio (about 100 miles). Beautiful area, nice people, not many lights, very dark sky. Why I chose it. There's a small river, and plenty of game animals.
I would love to move to the Alpine area of TX, but it is so far out from anything. But land is cheap
I am eyeing a 5in f/12.

In order to even consider wanting one of these, I'd need to live somewhere else, but they certainly look cool and I'd take one for that reason alone. That's why I hang onto my red-tube Edmund 8" f/5 on the fork mount. HOT!! - j

It is hard to put together an event like the 5" shootout isn't it. I guess I don't need to tell you guys.
Most of our best gatherings have been accidental but both my 6"f/12 with Siegfrieds 6" f/17.5 and the 8" D&G with the 9" Clark were planned. Still, that is only two people in the planning. When the other big lenses showed up that was just a bonus.
Yes, but... these wern't 'shoot outs', they were photo ops. I love the pictures of these beauties set up side by side. In fact I have some up here at work. Yep, there is Steve putting up the 8" ...

This D&G is really long, and in it's observatory was very hard to photograph. I was using a 10mm lens and against the wall and still couldn't capture everything. Pictured are Steve, Sig., and the owner Dave.

Still..that Piertec doesn't look tall enough or big enough to handle the 11".
My 10"f/15 needs oodles of lift to get the EP at a nice standing hight.
Great scope for sure. Was the objective in the scope?

If I recall correctly you like standing for zenith observing. You need nowhere that much lift for seated (and NO laying) zenith viewing.

Did you notice all the junk standing around in the observatory. Dave really needs to clean it out. He's got Takahashis, Zeiss, Telelues just cluttering up the observatory.

That zeiss telementor/mount collecting dust, in addition to being woefully lacking in aperture, is a prime candidate to martyr itself for additional operating space for the big glass. Being the kind and sacrificing stargazing I am, I'll gladly step forward and be willing to relieve Dave of this excess refractor glass clogging his observatory

Funny you would pick that one. All that great equipment and that is the one that caught Siegfrieds eye also. I guess great minds do think alike.

That is the same thing I was wondering. It's not that big in the picture, must know his refractors. I remember when Sig spotted this little scope, where can I get one, love at first sight. Bill

I went out last night with the 8". I forgot the rings I use to mount my finders and my Hargraves strut. It was very frustrating but I was able to mount the Rigel finder with velcro. Using this setup without the strut proves it is undermounted on the CGE.
Turned out to be a pretty good night. What you can't see in the picture is the huge smile on my face.
I love this telescope.
