They had a new Starbook LCD screen controlling this prototype mount. Much nicer and more detailed than the current version. Kinda like a mini The Sky. No word on release date. Here are some specs of the mount and tripod for you to decifer.

Sugoi!
Now, since the EQ-5 is a Vixen clone, when do you think we're going to see clones of this one?

I would have guessed that it is going on sale in Japan since it looks like a finished product.
Is it just a study or are they planing to introduce this mount?
Cheers

Can't tell what the load capacity is from the crunched characters? Do you know? Was there PE numbers listed?
Also did the new Starbook look like ths old one just revamped with same size screen or was it a whole new ergo layout?
Thanks for the views Rick !

The Starbook screen was just a LCD with all the electrical connections encased in the white box behind the mount in the second pic. When I asked about a nightvision mode they pulled a little shelf out from the box revealing a keypad with a layout similar to the current Starbook.
Again, this is a DEMO. A PROTOTYPE. WORK IN PROGRESS. SPECS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. PRICE YET TO BE DETERMINED. RELEASE DATE UNKOWN (IF EVER).

To answer a few questions on the new Vixen mount: Right now it is tentatively being called the AXD. It will have features and function above and beyond anything currently available in the high-end market. Think Astro-Physics plus. The new Starbook will be high definition with a huge database, drop down menus, key pad entry, user object input, red light mode and a ton of other very cool functions. We expect our first prototype in early January. Needless to say we are very excited for this new product. Stay tuned. Clear Skies, Brian Deis President MrStarGuy, Inc Dba Vixen Optics

Brian, can existing Vixen mounts (such as the New Atlux) be retrofitted with the new Starbook?
Thanks

Nice to have you at CN Brian but if nobody told you yet, you should register as a vendor.

No gain in max torque over my New Atlux.
Now if they pumped up the max torque toy 15 kg.m by beefing up the servos and gearing and bearings , and made a superheavy duty version the of duralium trupod , while still having the same performance on tracking precision and slewing goto etc.
So there would be an intermediate between the New Atlux and the Galax , then they'd have winner.

30kg , 750 kg.cm (much the same as my New Atlux)
BTW : looking at the pictures - it appears to have setting circles , that's an excellent idea (nice to have the fall back of good old fashioned manual setting circles).

I hope I'm wrong, but if past experience is a guide, it will be more expensive than an AP900.
If recent experience is also a guide, alas, it will also have problems.

I hope "above and beyond" function list will include the ability to actually disable tracking. I paid 2500 EUR for SXD and I can't do that with Starbook. I can't even use the mount to collimate on an artificial star.

If you get a chance to read your manual, page 17-18. after start up and on display on the starbook when it shows the scope pointing to the horizon, don't press select. The mount can be moved and does not track.
