I will be going to this one, and see if I can get it at a reasonable price or at least see what it goes for at auction. My budget will limit how much I can afford to spend.

I am planning on being there also! Let the bidding begin! Did you ALSO see the 150mm binoculars and stand in the photos?
Whoever buys the scope should also buy the troop carrier to move it. (a forklift will also be handy!!).

OK, that's pretty cool. Also massive. That mount must weigh a ton, no kidding, plus the OTA. It really deserves an observatory and part of a technician's time to keep it going. Perhaps a school donation is appropriate?
It made me smile to see the SkyWizard DSC computer on there, the same one on my (relatively) little dob.

Previewed the 24 today. For a homebuilt it is pretty nice! Overheard a lot of interest in this instrument amongst other attendees. Rumor has it a group is flying in from Arizona to be part of the bidding. The auctioneer also mentioned numerous calls from Florida. I asked if he had received any proxy bids and he just smiled at me. Tomorrow looks to be an interesting day!! On another note the other items in this auction are ALSO interesting. From ham radio, microscopes, machine shop tools, photographic equipment, lapidary equipment, and many other items of science it shows how this person was really a renaissance man. He was into everything!!! Found a few things I will be bidding on tomorrow and post a message on how the 24 cass bidding went for those interested. My personal guess is in excess of $20K!! Tonight I am running a mild case of aperture fever but I have taken two asperin and am confident it will pass. To rich for my blood plus the moving issue of such a massive instrument. No easy way to take it apart. The owner is still alive and is liquidating everything to move back to Germany. He has family there and is going home. More tomorrow.

Well it sold to a group from Portland for $13,000, a very good deal. Good luck on getting it home. The large binoculars appear to have been removed from the sale along some some other radio receiving equipment. The owner had a variety of interests and wasn't afraid to spend $$$ to get the best equipment. I did end up with a very nice Geotech broadband 3 component seismometer, amplifiers, and a Geotech Portable seismic recorder. Was VERY surprised to see that equipment here, since I did some of the design testing on the portacorder when I worked for Geotech for 25 years.
There was also a very nice older Heliostat (sun) monitor with follow mirror and reflector with what appreared to be the solar narrowband filters. 1980-90' technology before the Coronado scopes.
An SBIG astro imaging camera and an SBIG guide camera and controller, were sold separately from the BIG telescope.
Good time had by all - 'cept it was raining.
