Geez I think your camera is just at the wrong aspect ratio.

Indeed it looks like your output file is simply streched...
Try to bring it back to the expected ratio and see what happens.

I have got the answer by Starlight. It appears that the SXV guider has rectangular pixels so the elongated format is normal given that the pc screen has square pixels. If I resample the image to the expected ratio the stars are round and not oblong. The problem is now definitely solved.
