Indeed it looks like your output file is simply streched... Try to bring it back to the expected ratio and see what happens.

I have got the answer by Starlight. It appears that the SXV guider has rectangular pixels so the elongated format is normal given that the pc screen has square pixels. If I resample the image to the expected ratio the stars are round and not oblong. The problem is now definitely solved.
