Anyone have information or know collectors of these 1980s refractors? Any photos?

All I can say is that my views thru one many years ago knocked the socks right off my feet and I was wearing boots. Bill

Am I seeing things, or is one end of that hammock anchored to the mount?

Hmmm, I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it - my eyes were on the twins. Wonder what the other end is anchored to?

One of these days I'll try a Refractor better than my 90mm finderscope

Perhaps there could be a section here for all those with the AP 7" F/9 Starfire so they may share their scopes, pictures, experiences, ect.

LOL yes I saw the hammock going to the mount too and had strange thoughts, just how stable must that tripod be? Grendel

Or it's a F/12?? When you click thru to the description anyway it changes from F/9 to F/12, and it looks it too...

I think he has a vertical rope running to the ground connected to a large auger like screw. He is just using the tripod head for elevation. A lot of the force is absorbed by the screw pulling straight down on the mount overidding most of the lateral forces. Mike

Think it would be great to get a Classic AP Starfire club going here like Classic Telescopes. Love to see members an also Ill check the one for sale too.

Well, I have one from the 90's. White tube. I tend to use it more than my 20inch Obsession. It's just so easy on the eyes (crisp stars, dark backgrounds, flat field) if not on the knees...LOL.
I used to hang out at the AP group on Yahoo but it has turned into an imaging site for newer AP models, so a Classic AP Starfire here would be fun.

I have an opportunity to buy a 6" f/9 pre-Starfire AP. I'm told it's an oil-spaced doublet. Excellent mechanical condition, 3" focuser. optics LOOK great. What would be a good price for such a scope {OTA only)?
Thanks for any info.

So is there any coffee table books on the history of the AP telescope?
