AFOV and PST? new
      #3446415 - 11/13/09 05:32 PM

If I get an EP with a larger AFOV will the sun stay in the feild of view longer or does the PST limit the feild of view? Thanks; Don T.

Yes ... even the 20mm Kellner that comes with the PST is limited by the scope rather than its own field stop.

Thanks; Not much sense in a high dollar high AFOV EP then!

Given the 1A passband of the etalon in the PST, the crucial thing about EPs for the PST is delivering lots of contrast. IMHO the Baader Genuine Orthos are about the best currently manufactured EPs to use with the PST (in 18mm, 12.5mm and 9mm focal lengths ... the others are too short). TMB monocentrics may be better and Zeiss monocentrics certainly are, but at a price where you'd be investing in a Solarscope rather than a PST.

Thanks; I'm using a AstroTech paradime 12.5mm at the moment. It seems to work better than the 20mm Kellner.
