RCX Focusing for Imaging

I have always used a Stiletto focusing tool for imaging with my refractors.

Recently I tried it on my RCX, and I can't seem to achieve perfect focus with it. The central obstruction is huge, and takes up most of the view in the Stiletto's eyepiece.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I use a Bahtinov mask, and it works rather well. There is no guessing with such a mask. You simply adjust the focus on a star until the three diffraction lines intersect.

You can make one yourself (there are online templates you can use), or you can purchase one.

Can't really comment on the "goodness" of a commercial Bahtinov, since I made my own mask out of foamboard and a cheap wooden loom. I know there are outfits which make metal masks.

I got my 12" one from Kendrick Astro. Its a very well made
