Processing Techniques Comparison
      #3455844 - 11/18/09 08:16 PM

I thought it would be interesting today to do a comparison on 3 different types of processing. The 3 different types of processing I used are processing just using Carboni's AstroTools, stacking all channel files in Nebulosity and processing stack in Photoshop, processing each channel file first in PS then stacking in PS and more minor processing.

Three different results, I was surprised by the difference, esp between the last two types.

Here is a link: http://morrisastronomy.blogspot.com/

I set out the steps I did for each for anyone starting in processing who wanted to give each variation a try .... hoping to be helpful to some newer newbies than myself.

Very interesting Anna. I've been at this AP thing for two years now, and I'm always interested in what others do and try to pick up new methods, procedures, and tips. Your work is looking really good.

I know most of you are much better at processing than I am, but I am just hoping to help out some who are just starting and might want a few pointers like I was looking for when I started. Jerry's book is great and helped me alot, but combining those techniques with others and just kinda playing around has helped me greatly. One person had told me when I started that if I got the AstroTools I could use those to completely process a photo, which is why I included that method to show that it could be processed with that alone, but doesnt provide the best results and that it should be used with other processing instead of an end-all tool.
