Best Option for DSLR External Power new
      #3457522 - 11/19/09 05:47 PM

So I want to get an external power solution for my 40D. The Canon stuff seems expensive and complicated (I don't really see a large need to run off of AC power atm for instance...)

I am familiar with the $99 Hutech adapter - is this a good choice? Are there other better choices?

Thanks bunches,

ML

This is the AC 120V unit I use:

$55 and my camera always works even at -20F.

Yes, Cercis Astro offers a really good 12 volt adapter for $129 which also includes a 120 volt adapter for that same price.

I got one from here:

http://www.astronomiser.co.uk/canonpower.htm

My camera is "in the shop" at the moment and have not been able to try it yet, but I hope to soon.

Other than it taking 3 weeks for shipping, the price was good.

I use Canon ACK-E2 power adapter and it's not complicated at all and the price on amazon is starting at about $60.

oops... didn't realize that Mike posted the same unit. Anyway, it's a good and reliable unit.

Thanks for all the replies. I should have been more obvious that I was really looking for a DC adapter. Jerry's suggestion for the Cercis looks intriguing though, since it appears to be both a DC AND an AC adapter for one price. It looks like you can't order directly online though - I guess I'll try calling them tomorrow.
