I currently use DSS but unfortunately this is windows only. Does anyone else use an Apple Mac specific stacking software?
My workflow involves after acquisition of the images, stacking in DSS, save as Raw Tiff files. Stack and register in DSS. Process using CS3.
Would be great if stacking was done on a mac, and for free if possible.
Thanks, Neil.

Neil--
Nothing free that I know of; I'm using Nebulosity and, at 60 USD it's very reasonably priced. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of some other applications but good enough for me. There's a free download that is fully functional except for creating diagonal lines across the image.

I'd second Nebulosity. 60 USD is a good price for what you get.

I'd also agree that Nebulosity, while not free, is extremely cost-effective.
And it runs on both the Mac and the PC, just in case you're OS-ambidextrous...

Keith's Image Stacker 5.0 is shareware for $15. Seems to do a good job of stacking and post processing.

Many thanks Dan for your time in compiling the list.
I didn't realise there was such a choice of mac software.
Thanks for the input guys.

Lynkeos is what you are looking for. It's free, really fast, and right now I have it stacking 14 MP images from my Pentax K-7. It writes out 16 bit TIFF as its base format. Be sure to grab a nice section with an obvious unique pattern of stars. Alignment is very smart, and a lot faster than Keith's Image Stacker. The other factor is Lynkeos doesn't have a memory limit. Keith's can only stack about 60 6 MP images, and is unstable at that point. I recommend getting a free RAW converter to use as a preprocessor. I have only one complaint with lynkeos where it swaps around color channels in Pentax .PEF files. So, get lynkeos and stack like the wind!
