Barlowed XW10 ?
      #3460871 - 11/21/09 04:07 PM

Anyone try an adapter and the 2"Antares 1.6x on this eyepiece? Or the Teleview 2X barlow or Powermate 2.5x? I'm having trouble rationalizing myself into buying one.

I used the one I had in a 2x Barlow (2" GSO) and in Meade's 2x and 3x TeleXtenders (similar to a TV Powermate). Except for the change in magnification, I saw no altering of the superb view the 10mm XW is capable of.
That said, I really prefer not to Barlow. I like the ep's right in the scope, with nothing added.

One downside... that's a pretty big combo unit you'll end up with... and it will stick out farther from the eyepiece, so depending on the scope you have, it could throw off the balance.

Doug
: ya sold it off?-may I ask how come?

Paul: it would be shorter and less weight than my E13 and barlow. But the hypothetical XW10 and barlow would be for my megrez 80, which has a L-bracket.

I've tried my 10XW with the Antares 1.6X and it works well on Deep Sky and planets.

The barlow performs so well for the price that it's not hard to justify.

The 10mm XW is arguably one of the best eyepieces ever made...so also not hard to justify.

We tried the E13 in the Barlow and this also worked very well, but it becomes hefty.

For what it's worth I've only 2 eyepieces right now, a 31Nag, and a 13 Ethos. I want something a bit higher power for my 80/480 than my 1.6x 13 Ethos (8.6mm). So I was thinking the 10XW and 2.5 powermate for 48x and 120x.-If the combo works well that is.

Chris: the 13E+1.6 barlow weighs 30oz and the 31Nagler alone weighs 35oz.

I have the Antares 1.6 and the 10XW and the combination works beautifully. It also works just as well with the 2x TV powermate.
