A search of the archives reveals no mention of a freeware astronomy program that I find invaluable. "Hallo Northern Sky V2.2.2a" is the product of the Saguaro Astronomy Club. There are a stack of downloadable files, one of the most useful to me is the HNS_DEEP.HLP file. When installed and activated, clicking on a deep sky object brings up observation notes for the object from a data base of 1000's of deep sky objects. I have Sky Tools 2.1, Carte du Ciel and a few other programs, all of which are good, but at the scope HNSKY is fast, accurate as far as I can tell, and contains more objects than my scope will ever be able to see.
http://www.hnsky.org/software.htm#hnsky for downloads.
Highly recommended!
