There's some nice activity today. I caught several nice prominences and (I think) AR1040.

I used white and black charcoal on black paper, I like this medium, and will probably continue to use it in the future.

TE,

Another excellent observation of the Sun in H-alpha. You have captured the explosive solar surface very nicely. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

TenthEnemy,

It looks very sharp. The proms really stand out in your sketch.

Frank

With every fine sunsketch of your hand, I think: "I have to buy a PST, I have to buy a PST, I have...". I hope you keep on posting sunsketches untill the day I will buy one.

Tenth

Very nice solar sketch with prominences and surface activity!

Could you elaborate on the exact paper that you used and the size again? Also, I am aware of grey and black charcoal but not white. Is it possible that your white is actually Conte chalks-crayons or pastels?

Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the comments everyone.

Jef,
I had those same thoughts when looking at sketches of the sun. That is what prompted me to get a PST.

Mark,
It's 9"x12" Artagain black paper and the sun is eight inches in diameter. The white is a General's Charcoal White pencil. I don't know what it's made from, but it's for use with black charcoal. The black filament in my sketch was done with a sharpened vine charcoal.
