This website has a host of useful information about how to use Photoshop and other such tools to create spaceart.
I think I just found something new to play with...

Hello Alex,
Nice to see someone else from the camera's forum here:), you can use photoshop elements for sure Alex, i used just that a few yrs ago.
What filters do you have installed with it?

All of my art has been done with Photoshop Elements 2.0, so, yes, you can do it with that tool. My gallary has two samples of my art (though at relatively low resolutions, of course) so you can see what I mean.

Well you guys are not going to believe this - i myself am absolutely gutted...i've just been informed by my parents that we have had the full version of Photoshop 7 installed on our computer for years, but it's not an icon so i never realised it...All this time i've been using Elements 2.0 to process my space pictures!!!
Anyway, at least i've found it now so i can't wait to get started with this astroart
Tonight i've just made a 3D sphere with my own pattern in Elements 2.0, just to get the basics of the planetary shape.
I've also made a "solar eclipse" quite accidentally, by fading colours, duplicating layers, then adding a black circle to almost fill the yellowish circle below. No prominences on the solar disk though, that's too complex.
Due to my lack of artistic talent, it's gonna be like pushing water up a hill, but i'm gonna give it my best shot. If i can create pictures half as good as the ones on this forum i'll be very happy.

Great News you have Photoshop Alex you can do all sorts of images with that.
If you post your efforts maybe we can offer you better advise on what your trying to do?...
Kind Regards

Glad to hear that you do have Photoshop, even if it was hiding!
Talent is often created through practice, IMHO. While some people are more artistic than others, art generally isn't one of those things that many people just can't do, unlike, say... being a linebacker for the NFL or being a professional marathon runner or something. So, with practice and an understanding of the basics you'll get there, I suspect.
If there's any questions we can answer, we'd be glad to do so!

Thanks both of you for the kind words. I'm gonna now spend a bit of time trying to create a "space scene" - no idea what i'm going for though so don't get your hopes up!

It can be tricky, especially in the beginning when you stare at Photoshop's endless list of menu options wondering, "Ummmm... what does this do?"
With time and experience, it goes faster - don't be discouraged. Those first steps always take time.

As Matthew has said it does take time Alex, dont worry about getting amazing results yet just get used to the filters in photoshop first and experiment with them.
