Mars observation Jan. 22th
      #3578240 - 01/23/10 03:42 AM Attachment (42 downloads)

Dear observers,

yesterday I had the chance to see the Red planet with good seeing and under a "interesting" CM. The northern polar cap got smaller again, but I could not detect any divisions in the cap as others report.

The souther polar hood seems to start its development.

At the sketch you can see Nilacus Lacus, mare Erythraeum and Chryse quite contrasty. Lunae Lacus and Arcadia could not be seen at the first glance but were clearly visible.

(15-cmMak@144x).

Uwe

Very nice sketch of Mars with great surface details Also thanks for sharing the explanation. It will give me something to focus on and realize when I finally get the clear skies.

I wish I could just get a night or two of clear steady skies to see what you are seeing.

I look forward to seeing your next observing session and sketches of Mars.

Mark

Uwe, I enjoy your use of color. I noticed your maginification of 144x. I was observing for about 40 minutes between rainclouds and tried 120-300x. At 300x, I could see the shape of the dark features better, but I have to admit I like the view in my 4" refractor better at 120x. Colors were much better saturated and the planet looked as if I was approaching in a spaceship. Thanks for sharing.

Uwe,

Great sketch as Mars gets closer to earth. You have captured much detail in very nice fashion. Excellent post!

Uwe,

An excellent observation of Mars. You have recorded Mare Acidalium and the North Polar Cap (NPC) very nicely. I have labelled the major albedo features noted. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos
