Who's going to stay up tonight to oversee the landing of Spirit? I'll be watching NASA tv via the web...and keeping an eye on the trusty countdown clock: http://www.spacedaily.com/
Looking at the people pacing around even makes me nervous...

That's when they'll communicate with it for the first time I think. According to the countdown, it has just over three hours left till arrival.
Go here: http://www.spacedaily.com/...and scroll about halfway down. On the right side you'll see, "Mars Exploration Rover Spirit Will Land." Underneath that is a countdown clock.
I've heard of the NOVA show "coinciding with the landing of spirit," but I don't think that that is possible. Maybe coinciding with the first useful communication is more accurate.

Adam, it is due to air hours after the folks at NASA communicate with it...my mistake. Your right, it will be landing tonight.

YEP! AND ONLY TWO HOURS LEFT!
Just found this...it is what the rover is seeing on it's approach: http://mars1.jpl.nasa.gov/mgs/realtime/mera1.jpg

Before, the rover hits Mars, it has to turn around to put it's heat shield toward the red planet. They have no way of knowing if this happens except by guessing what a couple of drops and rises in telemetry means. I guess this is what we get when we don't spend enough money on the space program, huh?!

This is my moon landing...:-). It's too bad none of the national stations are broadcasting this. The web version of NASA TV is horrific as far as clarity and fluency goes. Definitely not your digital cable.

Is Spirit broadcasting the touchdown? If it is on the web, then I'm outta luck...my wife is streaming the Willie Nelson concert right now and she'd scream bloody murder if I stole her bandwidth!

They're having a show on NASA TV, but the only camera during entry is for orientation. Wouldn't that be cool though if you could watch entry to another planet!?

So we really won't know until tomorrow evening when they try to communicate with it. Fingers and toes crossed. First the Japanese, then the brits...let's hope 3rd time is a charm! It's a real shame about Beagle2. The Japanese space craft was doomed from the start (or so it seems).
