The combo of -10c(it was a dry cold) and calm winds made for just perfect viewing conditions...I can't remember that last time I saw an AR in such crispy detail...I think I messed up my sketch trying to draw the many filaments that appear to be stitching the south edge of the AR...I'm working on getting my filaments dark and not light so excuse the negative look to them...
If I get a chance and conditions persist, I'll try to do a close up of just the AR, it really WOW'd me today...

Fantastic sketch Stepehen! Glad you're getting such a great view. It prompted me to check out the sky here - still grey but I can see some blue, maybe it'll clear for me but I doubt it! Hope you manage to get your other sketch done

Excellent sketch Steve! Exactly what I see @ 1535z as storm departs to the East. Looks like clear blue skies for the rest of the day, so I'll be busy w/ CaK scope and Herschel Wedge as well as H-alpha. If I can figure out the new camera, I might have some pics too.

Awesome sketch!
We're digging out of two feet of snow, but this morning is clear. My first Sun in three days certainly did not disappoint!
There is something about an awesome Solar view that makes time stand still and all other consciousness recede into the background. Not always a good thing if it's well below freezing!
Sunny skies,
Jim

Very nice. Just got in from viewing. The larger proms are an awesome sight. There a nice filament on that side too.

Stephen, that's disgusting.....
Not your drawing, which is quite exceptional, but the fact that so much is going on and I'm sitting under cloud cover...
Beautiful sketch work. Look forward to seeing your close up drawing of the active region.

Jim, you need to move farther down the coast. We're clear this morning and the action is high.
Stephen, great drawings.

Hey Stephen, Always good stuff. Good old fashioned naturalism. Looks like your scope is one of your best buddies.
Enjoy!
