Had a play with sketching Mars in color using Canson black paper and Conte' crayons. I didn't use any filters or barlows this session. Time was limited between the clouds.

Erika,
Beautiful sketch of Mars under improving conditions. The colors and blending are beautifully done. It is always a pleasure to see your sketches.

Very subtle use of tones. It's the sketch I pictured mentally but could not bring to fruition last night.

Erika,
Your sketch demonstrates the beauty and difficulty of Mars observing. The muted colors and bright limb arcs are true to the eyepiece view as is the low contrast of the albedo features in anything but very good seeing conditions and high magnification this apparition. A wonderful sketch.

Nicely done, Erika. That "practice" on the sun pays off!
