Mewlon 250 on AP 600E new
      #3620226 - 02/12/10 08:24 AM

Hi will an AP 600E mount handle a Mewlon 250 for visual observing and "light" imaging? I have no plans to piggyback anything on my Mewlon, I may do some prime focus / short exposure imaging (1 min or less) with my modified Canon 300D, but it's not my primary objective.

Thanks,

Chuck

I used my CGE w/ the Mewlon for several shots. The MI provides a higher exposure success rate, but the CGE worked, so I'd bet the 600 also will work.

The real question is whether you really want to run the small image scale that you'd have w/ the DSLR on the Mewlon (@ native FL). I bin X2 (w/ a monochrome cam) when imaging on the Mewlon, to keep the scale up to a manageable value (0.9"/pix). This allows reasonable exposures in 5 or 10 minutes.

I had my M250 on a Tak EM200 and it was a very good match for visual. I think the 600E would be fine as well.

Actually, that would also depend on the PIER. FWIW, I found that a TEC 140 and TV76 piggybacked (about your mass but more moment arm) was OK, but I was on a 10 inch column of re-inforced concrete.

The 600 is a great mount, but make sure you have a solid pier or set of legs with that load.
