Al, Congrats on the scope. I remember when we were discussing scope choices when I picked up my Nighthawk. I thought that someday you might pick one up. Good little scope. Does what it is supposed to do. Mechanically - awesome!!! Focuser, dewcap, overall build - all excellent. I did something a little different than the rest of you - I special ordered mine without the clamshell. I ordered the old style rings, and my sliding dewshield moves way more than just 2". It is the clamshell that gets in the way, right? Vic built exactly what I wanted with no problem.
Al, For imaging wide DSO's, I am putting the Nighthawk on the Atlas (EQ-6) also. I have only used it for Lunar snapshots so far, but I plan on expanding its role in astrophotography.
For visual observing, this thing is great!!! One of the best astro investments I have made so far.
Stacy, The CG-4 mount I use with my Nighthawk is perfect for this scope. Less than one second of vibration when focusing. Light enough as a combo that I carry it all with one hand out the door.
Let us know how the scope works out for you Al.
