Cleopatra's Eye and other winter objects
      #3630524 - 02/17/10 03:06 PM Attachment (50 downloads)

Last weekend the cloudy weather relented and I went to the usual site from which I observe deep sky objects, a local airstrip. Among the objects I observed that night is the bright double shell planetary nebula NGC-1535, also known as Cleopatra's Eye. The larger, fainter and more diffuse outer shell surrounds a much brighter and smaller inner shell, which has a hole in which the central star is apparent. I observed this object with my 10-inch Dob and a 7mm TMB planetary eyepiece that yielded a magnification of 188X. No nebula filter was used. Other objects I looked at include the Canis Major galaxy NGC-2207, the Aries sketched on the same night I drew NGC-1535.

Excellent DSO observations. How do you render the stars? Is it done by hand or computer? Thanks.

That are a couple of really fine sketches. I like the detail you put on your DSO. That must be a lot of work.

Taras,

Very nice to see some of your impressive planetary nebulae and galaxy sketches here again.
Beautifully done.

Thanks everyone. Regarding your question Mathteacher, initially I draw field stars' locations in with a pencil, but I use Photoshop to add them after scanning the drawings.
