Mars - Sayonara!

One last sketch for the road. Seeing was not very good, so the sketch is rough. It is a CM I have not observed yet. It was lots of fun observing and sketching the Red Planet with you all this apparition.

Mathteacher
Like you said in my post, it is fun to try different sketching techniques. I never tried a black & white Mars, but when I look at your beautiful sketches I will trie it next time.
Do you make the sketches at the eyepiece?

Yes, I have a small pad and mechanical pencil at the EP. There are lights everywhere so I don't need a flashlight to draw

Mathteacher,

An impressive sketch of Mars. The window of opportunity to sketch Mars close-up passes very quickly. Mars presents so many of the surface and atmospheric features of Earth that it is difficult to resist the temptation to sketch it.
Nice work.

Frank

Ging-Li,

An excellent observation of Mars. You have recorded several albedo features over Mars. I have labeled the major features noted. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

I managed to get this sketch on Feb 15 with a Tak TSA-120. Seeing was reasonably good despite the cold. The NCP is showing some definite shrinking, and a dusky area is visible on the Martian south limb. Syrtis Major can be seen as it begins its rotation onto the disk. It's a shame that the Red Planet will be tiny and distant when the weather finally breaks here.

Ging-Li,

You are welcome and I hope that you enjoy more good views of the planets in the future.

Larry- An excellent observation of Mars. You have recorded many albedo features in your fine observation. I have labeled the major albedo features visible. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Larry

Nice sketch with a lot of detail! With the black mask Carlos put around the planet, it is even better!
