Dear sketchers,

surprisingly we had clear sky this night. I brought my 6 inch Mak out and waited until it cooled down. Mars was very steady at 188x. We in Europe look at the rather dull side at the first half of the night at the moment, but I was able to glimpse some details.

Uwe,

An excellent observation of Mars. I am glad that you enjoyed a good view of Mars on a clear night. You were observing the hard side of Mars and therefore not many albedo features were visible. I have labeled the albedo features visible. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Your central meridian (CM) was 175.1 degrees West with an apparent diameter of 13.1 arc-seconds.

Carlos

Uwe,

Very well done. You picked out much more than I can see on that side.

Frank

Glad the weather cleared in Germany. Here in Belgium February is a disaster for nightobserving... I hope next month will be better!
Nice sketch of the "bad side of Mars". I have difficult to compare with my own observings, because N is up by your sketches. But the hard work of Carlos always solves this little problems.

Yesterday (February 20th) I sketched Mars again. The CM was quite similar, 185°. The m. Sirenium looked quite different during this sketch. Such comparisions help us to decide what is fiction and what is reality.
The instrument was my 6 inch Mak again, magnification was 300x this time: I observed 22:40 UT an Mars stood 60° high in western Cancer.

Uwe,

Both sketches are terrific captures of the red planet at the eyepiece. Nicely done. I really like the subtle nature of the details in your sketch.

Uwe, interesting to see those differences between the two sketches.
