Bill:
Yep, I bought that gun in a box with a larger one (also gravity fed) with a 20% of coupon at HF. The gun never seems to be one of their on-sale items, so I waited for the 20% coupon.
It seems to be a pretty decent gun, though I have had to close and reopen the air jet periodically to maintain a good paint flow with it. I may need to thin my paint more, perhaps. It might not be the gun at all.

It looks like adhesive thru at least #348.

Interesting. I'll have to pull out my 1975 model and see if it has screws holding the cells to the tube or adhesive (but I won't take it apart to determine that!).

So...
Were the OTAs glued/epoxied together with the optics in place or before they were put in?
Anybody know?

Project Tinky is coming along nice Tim, beautiful job.
One way to find out is if you can slip the primary sideways through the corrector cell. Seems to me the later front (corrector) cell is notched for this purpose. If you can't get the primary assembly down through to it's own cell that will tell a lot about the early model you have.

Well, I don't think I'll really work on Tinky this weekend (got to work on the house and the Model A again), but I did want to "drylab" the tube and cells together to see how the colors look together. Tell me what you think (I, speaking for myself, like the cell color better than the later brown):

Found a small nick through the paint on the corrector cell, though! Think I'll touch it up with a small brush.
The paint on the tube went on somewhat dry in places, so I may give it a very light wet sanding with some 600 or even 1200 grit wet/dry paper.
I think I'm going to go ahead and order some of the Alsacorp soft feel suede clear. Likely will take a couple weeks to get, once I do. So, Tinky gets to harden a bit longer, before I try that and try putting it all back together.

Dang Tim, you're making me want to go down to harbor Freight and pick up a spray gun and repaint my C4.
Maybe a nice classy eggshell white...

Picked up my Alsacorp soft-feel clear today!
If all goes well, I may have the most expensive Orange Tube C-8 alive! LOL!
I'm going to try this stuff out tomorrow.

Cool! The sun's burning off the fog after all! I'm going to try this stuff out on some non-Tinky parts before doing the scope. I want to be sure I know what I'm doing, as I gather if I screw up I'll have to strip and start over! (and I don't have enough of the paint to do that).

This Alsacorp Soft Feel paint is pretty interesting. The hardener is similar in viscosity to the thinner, but the base is really thick, almost like Dipity Doo (remember that stuff?):

I didn't take pictures of everything, because I thought I might need to work fast (turns out I didn't, though), but it's fascinating how well the paint takes the sheen off the color coat. When I shot these pics, I deliberately chose an angle where the sunlight glinted off the painted surface, so the difference could be easily seen. Here's the drive base before applying the alsa clear:

I think the sheen still left toward the top might be because I'd just painted it there. It turns flat pretty quickly even when I sprayed it on pretty wet, but that part was still wet, I think.
Here on the finder bracket, the difference is really pronounced. Before:
