A phenolic one is just fine, IMO. Don't foget a good circle cutting jig. You can make the same type of plate yourself, but for the money (about $30), it is a good plate. Nice looking table! Its 1.25" thick with some type of smooth laminate on one side. The frame is just 2x4's I had laying around. -------------------- Mike .......................
