Soft carry bag for CGEM tripod ???
      #3716088 - 03/31/10 02:14 AM

After many hours wasted on searches, I have yet to come up with a soft sided carry case/bag for my CGEM tripod. I just want to protect the tripod and also what ever is next to it during transport. I hate scratched and abused gear and I am looking for something simple or even better.
So what are you using ? I'm sure there are others as anal as me, let's hear your adaptation or solution.
Thanks in advance,
Brad

Try these guys. They indicate on the main page that they have tripods for most Celestron equipment.

Cases & Covers AKA Pacific Design

I bought a soft case for my CPC 1100 from them, as well as a padded tripod bag made especially for the weirdly shaped CPC tripod. Construction was excellent.

This was posted here on CN and I odered 2 of them for my 4 tripods. I have 2 tripods in each bag. They are very well made and offer great protection. The price is unbelievable...list price is $118.00 and they sell for $19.95.

I got this for my Berlebach tripod and it's really nice, heavy-duty quality:

Thanks for the links guys, just what I wanted !!

I am especially intriuged by the American Musical case as Stan gives it a good review and the price is great. I did not see any dimensions listed for it. Do you have any dimensions and will it fit the rather smallish CGEM tripod ?
Thanks,
Brad

Brad,

It's about 48"x 10"x 8". I have my CGEM tripod and my SE tripod in one bag and my CG-5 tripod and my SV T-6 tripod in the other. The bag is long enough that I can leave the legs on the tripods extended to the hight I like without having to re-adjust the legs every time.

After seeing this post, I got the American Musical bag without reading the dimentions that were posted. For me, it was way to long for just a single CGEM tripod, so I had to return it.

I ended up getting this Davis & Sanford bag instead. It fits my CGEM tripod very well and it has some internal padded velcro straps that can go over and between the legs so that they don't bang against each other.

Preston,

That looks like a very nice bag! Havimg seen both bags how would you compare the quality of the two? I really don't mind the extra length of the On Stage bag. The extra length allows me to leave the tripod legs extended at my preferred set up height, so I don't have to reset them every time. Down side is they take up a little more room, but at the moment I have the extra space. I use a bungie cord on my tripod legs to keep them from banging around. A small piece of foam packing at the end of the legs helps with scuffs and noise. Thanks for posting your find.

Stan

To add to what Stan said,

I really enjoy the longer bag as I can leave the extension/riser attached to the tripod. That saves a lot of assembly time everytime I set up.
I actually have the legs slightly extended as well inside the bag. It just depends on which OTA I am using, the 140 needs extra length if I'm doing visual.
A great recommendation from Stan that I have been very pleased with, and shared the info with others as well.
Brad

Check the soft golf bags.

I'm using a very unexpensive one (20€) with small wheels for the tripod of my CGE (17kg).

I went the DIY route for my bag for my CGE-Pro tripod. 2-layer cotton canvas with a inner layer of padded lining between. Fits great and cost very little. I was also able to make it in 'Celestron Orange'

IMO Guitar Center or Sam Ash music will have all of the bags you need.

My local Guitar Center was 50% higher than buying on line.
I could afford to wait.

Reading this thread got me just a bit worried that the two SSB bags I ordered would be too long for my mounts! Just got them this morning and I am very, very happy with them. I have an Antares EQ5 and a Skywatcher HDAZ (orion skyview alt/az) and they each fit the bags like they were made for them. From what I remember about my old Skyview case from Orion these are much better. Whoever discovered these for telescope tripods ought to get a kickback from the manufacturer in my opinion!

I've had mine for almost 2 years now. Someone here on CN told me about them (I don't remember who) and I ordered 2 at $19.95 ea. As soon as I received them I immediately ordered 2 more. I'm in the field 120 to 150 days a year and these bags are holding up great. A little dusty, but just like new. To cut down on space I have sometimes put both my CG-5 and CGEM tripods in one bag.

I use a Gator Padded Drum Hardware bag for my CGE tripod. I put a camping pad from Big 5 inside to help fill it out a bit.

thanks
