Saturn April 3rd 2010
      #3722080 - 04/03/10 04:50 AM Attachment (130 downloads)

I got out too late to catch Mars up high--it was low and the air was turbulent--but Saturn was culminating and I was able to get a pretty good look at it.

The NEB and SEB were both visible--I also saw the South Temperate Belt (STB). The Equatorial Zone appeared bright to the north and dull to the south. The rings made a dark line across the disk. I looked for but could not see any sign of the globe's shadow on the rings yet.

The sketch was done with 2B and HB pencils. I didn't get a chance to download those new templates, so I used Sol's trusty old template. I forgot to mention that I added Rhea digitally.

Best,

I much appreciate that sketch; it's the one that comes closest to what I have been seeing lately. Very nicely done too.

Great drawing, very accurate. I looked a couple of days ago and could not see the Cassini division.

Terrific sketch, with excellent details. Your making me wish that the storm after storm would break long enough to give me a view.

Thanks, guys. Jay, I hope your weather improves--I know too well what that is like. Mark, thanks for the confirmation. I've looked at recent Saturn images and none seem to capture the NEB or the dullness of the southern EZ(although all show the SEB). Visually, the NEB is there if you are patient.

Michael,

This is a very, very nice true to the eyepiece sketch of Saturn. Great that you also included the moon Rhea. You have really captured the difference in appearance between the northern and southern hemispheres.

Frank

Very nice saturn sketch, since the rings are starting to close a bit Sol's template is closer to being accurate, great job with the subtle markings in the saturnian atmosphere.

Michael,

An excellent observation fo Saturn and Rhea. You have recorded a good amount of detail over the globe. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos
