Older HEQ5 Pro computer connect new
      #3735994 - 04/10/10 12:28 AM

Hello,

I just purchased a used skywatcher HEQ5, it's and older model that doesn't have the upgradeable firmware on the synscan controller.

I'm just wondering if I can still connect it via my laptop and run the mount using Starry Night for example.

I think your looking for a EQMOD type setup.

I don't have any experience with it, but you can start looking here.

Try it, use the Celestron ASCOM driver.

I think the earlier Synscan controlers emulated the original Nexstar protocol, the driver send test messages to sort out what protocol to use.
