Mike,

I tried last night around 21:00UT but seeing was very poor.

I had a nice view on the 14th which showed the same details you have seen.

Did you draw Mars ??

Hi David,

I'm afraid i was observing saturn, and testing my barlows. and gave mars a miss.
tbh, it went pretty cold and i closed my session at 11-45.
i did look at mars early in the week and seeing was awful here, just a shimmering blob!

Mike,

Very impressive sketch of Saturn. It is a fantastic target now. I have not sketched it this year as I am waiting for a great seeing night.
Nice scope with a great mirror.

Frank

Mike,

An outstanding observation of Saturn made through a classic instrument (6" f/8 Newtonian with excellent optics). You have recorded the South Equatorial Belt (SEB) and North Equatorial Belt (NEB) as dark to dusky (3-4/10) solid bands. You rendered the Cassini Division accurately as thin curves at both ends of the ring. Thank you for sharing this wonderful observation with us all.

How did the Barlows perform while using the Zeiss Jena Orthos?

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

Regarding the barlows, i have decided to go for pure unbarlowed views. I feel that the barlows introduce a slight light scatter, which can affect critical detail.
I decided to try using barlows for the extra eye relief, but i would prefer to sacrifice that for the least glass in the light path.
I'm in the process of re-configuring my eyepieces, to include either a 6mm zeiss or supermono, plus a couple of other orthos to give me the needed magnifications.

Mike
