Great magazine! It has good articles and a flashy layout. I hope there is also a "letters to the editor" segment in the future, so people can comment on some of the material in the previous issue. I have a bone to pick on the issue of the causes of "space weather". While space weather disturbances are not always "caused" by solar flares, solar flares are often one major factor in helping trigger them despite one author's comments to the contrary. Many CMEs are a direct result of major solar flares, so it is kind of the flare causing the CME which leads to the geomagnetic storm a number of hours later when the material reaches the vicinity of the Earth. In addition, the X-ray and UV outbursts from flares can almost immediately cause greatly increased ionization of the D-layer of the Earth's Ionosphere, triggering long-distance radio blackouts as the D-layer absorbs skywave HF radio signals. Flares may not be the only triggering causes of geomagnetic disturbances, but they are a factor. Keep up the good work and clear skies to you.

Great first issue; there's enough articles in it for a whole year! Nice balance between amateurs/professional and technical/historical stuff.
Lots of recognizable CN names as well.
Nice article Darkstar, and congratulation to the Solar-Observer staff and publisher(?).

Boy, that's a heavy duty reading. Kudos to all the familiar names who contributed to a wonderful first issue.
When is the next issue coming out? I hope it's not a monthly because this issue alone will take many months of re-reading to fully understand.

Superb work. The "more amateur" section towards the end is very readable, the papers at the front are very professional, the sort of stuff you'd expect to find in "Nature" - they deserve careful reading more than the quick skim which is all I've had time to do so far.
The biggest criticism I have is that it's maybe too good for a first issue ... I hope there's something left in reserve for subsequent issues!

What a fantastic resource, better than any book I have found so far. I can't wait to read it properly (rather than skimming over). What a brilliant start, is it going to be monthly or quarterly? well done to everyone who contributed. Regards Alexandra

It does read like Scientific American which is a great read. This is a quarterly as it stands. I do hope that there is enough good material to strike a balance between the amateur and the desk bound professionals. This is a hard act to make. I like the prospect of so much good quality reading. Well done to all international contributors. John
