They are really two different sorts of things. Maxpoint creates a highly accurate pointing model and Pempro programs your PEC (among other things.) Maxpoint and T-Point basically do the same thing. I can't think of an analog for Pempro right off the top of my head.

What's the job you're wanting to do?

You're right. I've never had to use pointing or PEC software before so I guess I need to start at the beginning. Maybe better questions are:

Is Pempro worth paying for compared to Meades built in PEC/training?
Is MAXpoint worth paying for compared to Smartmount?
Which is a better investment, and I'm really thinking tracking, so I guess that tends towards pempro, BUT I really like the idea of using MAXpoint as my ASCOM hub.

I've gone back and looked at some earlier posts, and I think I've answered my own question.
