Jupiter without the SEB May 26th new
      #3830562 - 05/26/10 07:25 PM

Hi Everyone,

I made this observation of Jupiter posted in the SSO forum this AM.

I'm sorry I've been missing from this forum for some time but it has been high stakes testing time in public education land which has left me little time for astronomy. I don't even want to talk about the weather except to say that I've measured 9.35 inches of rain so far in the month of May.

Best to all,

Very cool jup sketch, the viw should only get better as jup gets closer and the grs gets darker, very realistic sketch.

Michael,

An excellent observation of Jupiter with the missing South Equatorial Belt (SEB). You did record the northern border of the SEB which usually does remain visible. The North Equatorial Belt (NEB) is very prominent and contain a bright rift. I hope to get a view of Jupiter soon. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

Michael
Even with Jupiter so low in the sky, you could catch more detail than me. Great job! Glad to see a confirmation that the thin line (I saw in my second sketch) is the north border of the SEB.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

I forgot to mention that I used HB and 2B pencils for the sketch which was done on copy paper--template courtesy Sol Robbins. In the short time I was out (roughly 45 minutes), the copy paper started to wrinkle up with moisture and my corrector plate dewed over--but at least it was warm.

Thanks, Jef. ASOD is a fine website, made even better since their makeover. It's always an honor to have one of my drawings accepted there.
