LEICA ZOOM EYEPIECES new
      #3900763 - 07/03/10 01:16 PM

What is the visual difference between the new Leica 25X-50X Aspheric zoom eyepiece and the previous Leica 22-7mm zoom ?

Besides larger FOV for the New Leica zoom , what is the visual difference , if any, between both of these excellent zoom eyepieces ?

Thank You

Both zooms are about equal for resolution, contrast, and lack of stray light. Both are top notch.

The Leica 22-7.3mm zoom is a really very good eyepiece. Just have a look here:

Leica 22-7.3mm versus ZAOIIs

The major point left to desire is the limited AFOV of about 38° at 22mm. But the AFOV increases up to about 70° at 7.3mm.

The Leica ASPH zoom 17.8-8.9mm has the advantage of a generous field of view from about 60° at 17.8mm up to about 80° at 8.9mm. Together with its again extremely good performance it is able to substitute any collection of high quality eyepieces - widefields and also the often discussed but never really defined "planetary eyepieces".

See here:

Leica ASPH zoom 17.8-8.9mm versus ZAOIIs

Since I've seen it now advertised for a very attractive price incl. 2" adapter - I've paid much more without the adapter - I'd even consider it being a steal.

Hope it helps

Andreas

'Attractive' is subjective usually and I'll bet in this case it's no different!

Brendan,

it's in the CN vendor forum

Leica zoom with adapter

FYI: I've paid 800 Euros without the adapter.
