Jupiter w/LS 8 on morning of 7/21/10
      #3938322 - 07/22/10 09:18 PM Attachment (74 downloads)

I sketched at the eyepiece the other night, this time with paper and graphite. I then used GIMP and my Wacom to recreate the sketch on the computer, this time in color. I'm mostly surprised at the white oval I viewed in the NEB. I'm curious to know if anyone else viewed it this way?

LS 8 ACF
14 mm UWA (145x)
Seeing 4/5
Transparency 3/5

Thanks,
john

I havent been able to view jupiter yet ( it does not clear my SE tree untill at least 4:45am) so I cant speak to your question.

Nice work, John. My Jupiter observing is temporarily on hold while I build my observatory, but have you checked the images in the Solar System Imaging forum for that white spot? The folks over there are going great guns on Jupiter.

It helps with comparisons if you note the Universal time and date and the System II longitude at the time of your sketch.

John,

That is a great looking Jupiter sketch.
Michael's suggestion may help you the most.

Frank

John,

An excellent observation of Jupiter. You have captured a good amount of detail over the jovian disk, especially the North Equatorial Belt (NEB). The elongated bright rift within the NEB is interesting. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Carlos

I'll have to search for how to get the longitude, never looked into this before. Universal time, yeah, that's easy enough and your correct, should note that.

thanks...john

John, there are several resources out there--here's just one: WIMP
Go the the drop down menu under Astronomical Software and download the Wimp files. It covers all the planets.
