EM-200 Polar Alignment new

Hi Everyone,

I have a new (to me) EM-200 and I hate to admit it, but the polar alignment documentation seems very confusing. Does anyone know of any resources that explain how to polar align an EM-200 in simpler terms than what's found in the manual? Failing that, does anyone have any pointers to get me going?

Download the Polar Finder program from the TAK group on Yahoo. No fuss, very simple.

It's been a while since I owned an EM-200, and my current mount (NJP) uses a different PAS, but the way I remember it the RA axis is rotated until the bubble level is centered and the date ring in the PAS is then rotated until the time and date line up. Then you just Polaris on the indicated spot.

It is my understanding that the Polar Finder program doesn't work with the EM-200 because the reticle, among other things, is different. At least that used to be true. I don't know if there is a newer versions of the program or not. Do you know Joel?

There are two programs, I have an NJP now and use the one you refer to. The other is called Polefinder.exe and used to be in the files section. I just looked and did not see it. It is written by a guy named Hartmut V. Bornemann and a screen shot looks like this...I assume that it is freeware as it was posted in a public forum. If you PM me with your address I will email a copy.

Just be sure that during Daylight Savings Time that you fudge your time zone one hour east of where you are. I live in central time zone, but during DST I must set it to Eastern time. It will affect your offset scale setting....
