Which mount is likely to be better for my 22 pound 6" f6.5 refractor? The iOptron iEQ45 or the Celestron CGEM?
Here are the links to the IeQ45:
http://www.ioptron.com/index.cfm?select=productdetails&phid=a67ad030-ddfb-47c2-8184-ab63d55bf2e6
http://www.scopecity.com/search.cfm?SearchKeyword=644-11750&pn=IOPTRON%20iEQ45%20EQUATORIAL%20MOUNT-45%20LB%20LIMIT,%206400
It is a brand new mount, but it looks like Scope City in taking orders. I know that the CGEM is proven, but I like the weight & portability of the iEQ45. It would be nice to see a full review of the iEQ45 but I'm without a mount and I'll probably buy something in the next 2 weeks.

hmmm you do make it interesting,,
But if I were you I would include the EQ6/atlas mount to your choices, The EQ6/Atlas always seems to get the nod over the CGEM due to the problems people are experiencing with celestron's mount and lack of eqmod/ascom ability make the the EQ6 a good choice. Now the ieq45 is new and there is no history yet so choosing would be difficult..

Impossible to say until somebody out in amateur land has an iEQ to play with. I will say this, iOptron is not known for problem free product introductions based on its history with its Cube series mounts...

Thanks for the input, I guess I won't rush out and buy the first iEQ45 that I can find.

But you never know. I ordered my C11hd the first morning allowed. Got one of the very first ones shipped. Glad I did! The ioptron mount may be a winner or... smart move to wait. The reputation is not there yet for ioptron.

I just saw a lightly used CGE & tripod for sale, not a pro, Would it be a good deal at $1800?

I'd think so. It's in a different class than the Chinese mounts previously mentioned. Real PPEC (with index switch), big gears, big bearings, big tripod. Mine carries a C14 most weekends.

So is it made in the good old USA? That would be a bonus.
Is the goto system pretty good?
