Hi All,
I have been enjoying binoviewing with all of my larger aperture Starmaster telescopes since 1997. I've observed Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn this way for many years. I've used TV, Baader, and Denkmeier binos, and my favorite one currently is a Baader Mark V. In the past when I needed to filter a view, (i.e., planetary view with planetary filters), I used to place the filters on each eyepiece. This only worked properly if the filters didn't upset the even focus between the two eyepieces while they were inserted in the bino because of their adding length to the eyepieces. It worked fine with my past TV and Denk's. My current Mark V bino 'does' not like individual filters on each eyepiece. It gets eyepiece focus differences between the eyepieces because the eyepieces become longer and don't fit properly in the bino. As a work-around, I now attach only one 2" filter at the front of the coma corrector that's attached to the front end of the bino. This keeps the eyepieces free of any disturbances and focus changes.

In my Mark IV's I use individual filters but use filter adapters so I can change eyepieces without having move the filters between eyepieces. I am forever switching eyepieces to get different perspectives. The adapters are easy to adjust for height to equalize focus and stay locked down. At times I use only a single filter or two different colors.

Enyo,
What exactly do you mean by "filter adapter?" I like to experiment with filters, and especially like quickly switching between various filters to see how they affect the visibilty of different features on the planets. But I haven't used a filter wheel stacked with my binoviewer because I thought it would be a heavy, cumbersome cantelever projecting out of my focuser.

Mike,
Pretty simple to show with a photo, not sure I can attach one or not. The adapters are simple 1 1/4 diameter extensions; filter on one end eyepiece on the other. They add to the back focus but if you are using a barlow or powermate it is not an issue.

Enyo,
Yes, I see now. A picture is worth a thousand words. It would be easy enough to buy a couple extensions like that. That would make switching eyepieces easier while retaining the use of a specific type of filter. I was thinking more about being able to quickly replace filters while keeping the same eyepieces in the BV. Now I switch filters by removing the entire BV with eyepieces, unscrewing the 1.25" OCA, removing the current filter from between the OCA and the BV's nosepiece, and screwing a new filter in it's place. I have a Burgess BV125-C. But of course a 2" BV nosepiece would make that problematical for 1.25" filters.
