Just curious...outside of the usual suspects: Planets,Moon, M42..What would the next 5-10 most sought after objects, owners of a 3.5 Q consistently view? Just curious.

I forgot to include the Sun! I've never looked at it..even though my Q came with a full aperture filter. Though there's been some solar activity recently.. I have felt that I wouldn't be able to see anything..and I could hurt my eyes?
Guess I should take a look. Lenny

Hi Lenny,

Your eyes will be perfectly safe if your filters (whether glass or solar film) are in good shape. Make sure it is secured well, and that your Q's solar filter for the finder is also flipped up against the finder lens.

I had my Q out yesterday and there was 3 sunspots. Seeing was pretty turbulent, so I was limited to less than 100X, but it was enough to see the darker inner umbra and the feathered outer penumbra regions. Two of the sunspots looked like they were splitting apart into two separate ones - have to check it out next sunny day we get.

My filter is a solar film filter which gives a blue/white color to the sun's disc. Your glass filter (if that's what it is) should give a more orange cast to the image (which I prefer).

Just exercise basic safety precautions and enjoy.

Malcolm
