NGC 1022 & NGC 1052

Here are a couple of other faint Herschel 400 galaxies I captured on the 4th of November. Sure hope our weather clears for the next two weeks!

Object: NGC 1022 Barred Spiral Galaxy in Cetus
Date: November 5th, 2010
Time: 07:34 UT
Location: Rush Valley, West Desert, Utah
Conditions: Clear & Cold
Seeing: Antoniadi II
V. Mag. 11.3
Size: 2.7' x 2.7'
Instrument: XX14i
Eyepiece: 14mm Pentax XW
Notes: Extremely faint galaxy, a dark sky is needed to view it. Bright inner core surrounded by diffused halo. Roundish in shape.

Object: NGC 1052 (Listed as an elliptical and a spiral depending on source; studies claim elliptical since duo jets have been discovered coming out of it)
Date: November 5th, 2010
Time: 07:50 UT
Location: Rush Valley, West Desert, Utah
Conditions: Clear and Cold
Seeing: Antoniadi II
V. Mag: 10.5
Size: 2.5' x 2.5'
Instrument: XX14i
Eyepiece: Pentax 14mm XW
Notes: NGC 1052 is a bright object, with a stellar like core that is surrounded by a roundish diffused halo. Small in size though.
NGC 1035 is a spiral galaxy with no structure evident and appears almost edge on, cigar shape. Interesting pair to observe.

Great work. I'm also working on the H400, but those two faint gx are very low in the sky for me. I managed to "detect" them. So thanks a lot for those two beautiful sketches!

Excellent sketches! I like the amount of field stars too.

Hi Jay,

Your sketch of 1022 is so realsiticly faint that I had to search your sketch to find it - which I really like because it's an accurate portryal of what you saw. Nicely done.

Jay,

An excellent pair of faint galaxy observations. You have captured these faint galaxies very nicely. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Carlos
