Very nicely written. I read all nine chapters (and I don't even have an SCT!)I learned a thing or two! Good job!

Nicely done and documented. There are a couple things that scope now cries out for: a new "Click-Lock" 2" rear adapter for the 3.25" rear thread and a good 2" star diagonal. It's just a shame to use a 1.25" star diagonal on such a nice scope that will probably be in service for years longer.
You forgot to flock the other two surfaces that need flocking: the outside of the primary mirror baffle (the outer surface of the outer baffle), and the inside of the secondary baffle. These two surfaces cause a lot of scattering of light as it passes through the scope.
Next time, if you don't already use a Lymax SCT cooler, install fans in the back cell of the scope--2 or 3 small fans should do it. The C11 takes a long time to cool because of that tube-insulated primary. Fans can bring it close to ambient in that time between sunset and darkness.
Good job! The amateur market needs more of these "hands-on" reports to show that the SCT isn't such a hard beast to clean and "tune up". If you hadn't installed handles, the project would have been very fast and easy. I suspect you spent as much time taking pictures and writing the report as it took to actually do the work!
Great report.

Great write up and pictures, I really enjoyed reading it. Like Don, I think fans would have been a good project while it was apart, but I guess you can do that next time..
Thanks for posting this up!

Fabulous write up, Joe! Thanks so much!
(My Public Missiles CF OTA tube for my C11 should be coming in the not too distant future)... and your well documented thread will be my "bible" for it's inclusion into my C11!
Thanks!

Joe, you're my hero, man! I have to get a C-11 just so I can follow along!
Seriously, you show that taking a CAT apart to do some creative work inside it is not so impossible. I had fun working on my LX200 Mak, and am glad to see someone else isn't afraid to dive in. I really enjoyed the piece!
Great job!!!

This is just wonderful.
I'm in Chicago and have been meaning to meet up with Joe's group at some point. Does he use the CN forums, and if so, what is his user name?

Great write up. Thinking of installing fans in a 9.25.
