I could see my mother in Sun City West on Friday, stay at her place overnight, do a book sale at the library in her community, then toddle up to Wickenburg for dinner and dancing with the stars. Hooked up my Wi-Fi black box to the NexStar and tested. Works! Woot! Now I can control the scope via TCP/IP. Now I need to find a decent tarp as the usual one is in the car. I also charged up my Shoari battery I used for my motorcycle and wired it up to run the NexStar. I have higher hopes for it than the Starizona battery (which seems to take forever and a day to charge and has little to no shelf life). The mid morning report will have to be an early afternoon report. Skies are clear, and a very satisfactory blue. Winds are calm, and the temps (shade) 90F. I had a pretty speckled rattlesnake in the yard yesterday morning, so a wise person might consider wearing 'real' footwear tonight, as the creatures of the night are about. Saturn was boiling just a bit but M51 looked pretty good. We had a very good turn out, some good scopes to look through and great company. Moonrise that night will be at 11:48 local time. The location will be at Sophies' Flat, Northeast of Wickenburg. Directions can be found posted earlier in this thread, or I'll repost them upon request. This will be our last Public Star Party for the Summer, and the next scheduled Star Party will be October 6, 2012. See you there! Still air temp: 94F Mornings have been getting down to the high 60s. Wind is 0 kph at this time. Sky color is deep blue, indicating low aerosols. NOAA is suggesting 10-20 kph wind during the evening, dropping to 5-10 kph after mid night. CSC is indicating relatively poor seeing, which would represent the breezy conditions expected. Locally, Polaris is not visible until ~8:20PM. The crawling creatures are out, wear footgear appropriate in self defense. See you there. Not quite as dark as we'd like and the crowd was on the small side but with Saturn up and taking medium magnification we did alright. For us old timers Omega Centauri was up too. So we're done till October (may do a commando party in late September depending on heat at clouds).
