I need help BADLY! My mount got damaged after a fall and now I need a couple of internal parts for it. Asked my local dealer but the price they quoted was HALF the price of the whole mount!!! I'm still steaming! Anyway the RA axis is done so I need to replace:
# Brass worm gear (Telescope-Service might have one for me, don't know yet) # Small roller bearing # Slotted nut
Anyone know where I can get these parts? Been two weeks now and I STILL feel sick just thinking about this!

I was on the Celestron site last night, and they have mount parts. I don't know if they have these specific parts, nor the price, but you might want to check there.

I did see ages ago that a guy called Richard Gierlinger made a replacement worm assy.
The original German page is here in case the translation page does not work.
Here is Gierlinger site. I cannot make head nor tail if he is still selling these worm assys.
The bearing should be easily available, just search Google for part number but the worm nut..hmmm not sure on this?

They are going to be expensive, $500 for worm set here:
http://www.deepspaceproducts.com/hypertune-service-for-the-atlas-eq-6-mount_8_4226_8660.html
I think that's installed. They get them from Aeroquest.
If it is any consolation, these are supposed to be high precision worm wheels (or ring gears as they are called) for people who like to replace perfectly good gears in the stock equipment. You should wind up with a more valuable mount if you install it on the RA axis.

You can get a better then new replacement gear drive from: http://www.aeroquest-machining.com/page3.html You can also get the ball bearing from http://vxb.com. I don't have the exact replacement info from vxb.com but they do have it, including a ceramic version of it.

Chris, I dont see what's wrong with your RA brass worm gear. Looks good to me. Reason why i asked is i've opened up my EQ6 and it looks just like yours despite my abuses.

I can see a big bruise (dent) on the top edge of the brass ring gear. The concern would be if it was a big enough knock to put it out of round..
Sorry to hear it. I can't help with parts.

The parts that difficult/expensive to get is the worm gear.
Why not exchange the RA worm gear with the DEC?

Perhaps you can get a used one from someone who has upgraded the worm gear. Try placing a Wanted ad here at CN or at Astromart. Or see if DeepSpaceProducts can get a used one from a upgrade customer did not want the old one back.

Thanks guys!
The photo doesn't really show how damaged the worm is. It's more or less stripped on one side so I can't change it with the Dec I fount the roller bearing at vxb. Still awaiting a reply from TS about the worm price. So the only thing missing now is the lock nut

Did you try the EQ6 Yahoo group?
There are places out there that sell gear upgrades/sets (maybe that's the site listed above, I'm sorry I don't know).
Try that group if you haven't!!

Do they have skateboarders in Norway? You can get those bearings at any skate shop in the US. I got a set of abec-5 to replace mine when hypertuning.

Ok, update! Got everything except the lock nut (will try and make one). So far that fall has cost me ~160 bucks! From now on the mount is staying home in the garden!
