My first Ash Creek specimen arrived today and I am very excited about it so I thought I would post the link. I have not yet finished the text but have added a few photos to my page. What an interesting witnessed fall that was! And didn't some of you Space Rocks members hunt this fall? Feel like it was mentioned in a previous post. That must have been an amazing experience, something I hope to do at least once before I die. Anyway, here is the link if anyone cares to look:

Hello JT:
Very nice photos - please keep posting!
The Ash Creek meteorite fell about two hours away from Austin (and it was captured on a daytime video during the Austin marathon) so it was a really big deal at the time here in Texas. I took one day off and went up and got to hunt with Steve Arnold (of Meteorite Men on the Science Channel). I did not actually find anything (Steve did) but I did manage to acquire a lot of specimens - which gave me the bright idea (or maybe the dim idea) of collecting a piece from everyone who was hunting at that time.
The result became this Ash Creek collection which spans about five album pages:

Since that time I have acquired a few more from other hunters - but I have not made the time to include their finds in the album yet - maybe later this year.
Enjoy the Ash Creek - a great stone with an important modern day historical legacy (at least to us Texans)...
Best Regards,
- RF

Russ,
Wow your unique collection of Ash Creek specimens is truly one of a kind! Thanks for sharing. And hunting with Steve must have been quite a memorable experience for you.
I hope you will continue to add to your already comprehensive website. I believe that photographing each specimen and researching the history of the falls just adds so much to this hobby. And sites like yours are a great resource for all enthusiasts.

Hunting with Steve was fantastic - but here is my real memory:
This was the 30 mile walk recorded that day by my Garmin portable GPS.
The heavy concentration of black lines were the many hours of back and forth gridding in a field which was very productive for many of the hunters.
I can tell you that I was one tired meteorite dude at the end of that day! It gave me a huge appreciation for the hours of work it takes to find these little stones. I have never complained about meteorite pricing since.
Best Regards,
- RF

Pretty cool journey Russ.
Two quick questions. 1) was it easy to walk on water? I've never had much success with it.
and 2) is there an available map of where specimens were found that could be overlayed on your map? I think that would be interesting for many reasons.
Thanks again.
