New York State officials are pushing ahead with plans to allow the Stockbridge-Munsee Tribe of Wisconsin to build a giant “off-reservation” casino on the banks of the Neversink River. If built, the casino is projected to draw more visitors annually than the Grand Canyon.
Several organizations, including the Natural Resources Defense Council are organizing to fight this and are urging letters (from US citizens and especially New Yorkers) to Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior, to not approve this development. Tell the Interior Department that this beautiful site in the Catskills is no place for a mega-casino.

It might be tough to kill this based on pure LP/environmental arguments, since the site is supposedly located near where NY Route 17 crosses the Neversink River, southeast of Monticello, near Bridgeville NY. On the classic LP map, this is an orange zone. On the adjusted 2001 LP map, it's in a yellow zone.
There may be bigger LP threats in the Catskills dark areas, like the proposed resorts/hotels near Highmount, and also near Andes/Bovina. Of course, there's also the possibility of gas well drilling (with huge gas flares) in the Catskills, maybe even in the NYC watershed area (someday).
