OK here is my "Iwo Jima" shot of Clint's Pearl being setup on Mt. Pinos on his old Byers mount...

Here's my Explore Scientific ED80 riding atop a Vixen Porta Mount with wooden legs and the "Manny Mount" mod. Ignore the non-refractor also featured in the picture

I like the dob in the background... it lends a nice sense of scale!

That 4" F/11 is longer then I'd always pictured it to be (in the mind's eye). Very nice....(I almost bought one myself...)

Hi Damo636,

You have a beautiful, classic looking kit there. The OTA looks great on the EQ5P (I have one of those as well, a terrific mount!) and it's the kind of scope you can enjoy under the stars...or just kicking back and looking at it sitting in the living room.

Clear Skies,
Brian

No doubt about that!

What mount is that?

Jason:

The scope is an AP 152 Starfire and the mount is a Losmandy GM100. Same vintage as the telescope and a perfect match. Still works like new. Losmandy sure builds one heck of a good mount.

Here's Robert's in the foreground, I think he has a 7" Astrophysics on a Titan right? Here again you can see the incredible, original, pearlescent paint job of Pearl...

...and in the final installment of "Scope Porn", we see Clint making some final adjustments to Pearl, a refractor you have to use a ladder to view through.

Hi Beo,

Nice scope!
I have a chance to get one like it.
How do you like the views?
Have you compared the views from it to a 6 incher
or other scopes?

Clear skies to You,
Mike

Which AP scope is this? What is the mount? Setup looks awesome BTW.

Hi Mike,

You can see my original thread on this for more info, but I only got a few minutes of first light between the clouds last night, and I wasn't even expecting that. Just bought it yesterday, and we were socked in all day. Still, for what I was able to see in light poluted skies, I'd have to say the views were phenomenal. Definitely some violet/blue haloing, and a bit finicky to focus at 8mm with the rack and pinion focuser, but I was very impressed with the quality of view looking at Jupiter and the Double Cluster. I can't say I've ever had that sharp of a view out of my 11" SCT. I REALLY wish it would have been the 6" the guy was advertising, but for what it is, I'm pretty happy! Hopefully I'll have clear skies this weekend to really give it a workout.

Beo
