The Yerkes 40" refractor model was made by one of the members of our club. I believe scratch built, but I will make a phone call and find out more including the scale, man hours to build, etc.
Note the tubular devices in each corner, tracks of somekind that the floor rises and falls on compensating for the height of the focuser end of the scope.
This photo, and several others, was taken at an Astronomy Day display that our club did at a local shopping mall back in 2007.

The Yerkes 40" telescope model is 1/48 scale, basically the same as "O" scale trains (i.e. - Lionel). The man in our club who built the model said that when "Sky & Telescope" did a 50th anniversary issue back about 20 or so years ago, that issue had a reproduction of an advertisement from one of the early years of "Sky & Telescope" which advertised plans for this model. On a whim this man in our club bird-dogged that ad and eventually made contact with the man who originally placed it 50 years earlier. He bought plans for the Yerkes scope and eventually made two of them out of cardboard, manila folders and wire. One was finished in "modern" configuration (1940?)and one in original, as built configuration.
He also obtained plans for a model of the Mt. Palomar (Hale) telescope in 1/96th scale and built it too. All 3 of these models were built between 1992 and 1994. The man who sold the plans also mentioned that he was about to finish plans for another scope, however after the initial sale of plans, contact was lost. The model builder in our club speculates that the man who made the plans sounded old 20 years ago. If indeed he first placed the ad for the plans back around 1940 or so, he cannot be any younger than about 90 now, maybe older, and it is likely that he is not alive.
In any event, the model maker in our club still has his copies of the plans and is willing to share them if anyone is seriously interested in making any of these models.

So at 1/48th scale, Yerkes 40" objective would be slightly over 13/16" (+21mm) in diameter? The model - beautifully detailed - looks bigger.

Here is some more information learned regarding the model of the 40" Yerkes refractor:
Barry,
Here are a few more tidbits of info.
1. The original advertisement was in a 1948 issue of S&T. It featured a pic of the 200" Palomar and was republished in the Nov 1991 50th anniv issue. The creater of the plans was Gene Hubbard in Niles, MI.
2. The pic of the 40" Yerkes with the white tube and orange setting circles that you took is the Modernized configuration. I gave this model, completed in 1994, to Mike Sandras. My model (gray tube and circles) is the original configuration.
3. In his last correspondence, Gene Hubbard mentioned that he was working on plans for the 100" Hooker at Mt.Wilson. I never heard any more from him.
4. I also did a 10" model of an Armillary sphere from Hubbard's plans. It was donated to the new Kenner Planetarium and is displayed in the lobby.
Enjoyed talking to you.
Bob

Here is my Vintage Celestron/Vixen c60, 60mm refractor on a polaris GEM. 100% original, and in pretty good shape! It also take 1.25" accessories.
