We have streetlights in my neighborhood that everyone contributes about $2 a month toward to cover the cost. One happens to be at the end of my driveway. I called the power company and asked to have it turned off. No surprise, said they coundn't do that, but, they could paint the part of the cover that faces my direction black so I agreed. I really didn't think that was going to be an option and was very suprised and pleased with the result.

There were several posts suggesting illegal activity pertaining to lights removed from this thread. CN does not allow any posts of this type on the forums.

Please refrain from posting in this manner in the future.

Thanks!

lucky you, our electric company no longer shades lights for people, even if the lights shine into bedrooms at night.

We were interested in purchasing a house in 2000 that had a streetlight off the driveway.

Since it was a private subdivision and not public I called the homeowners association and said I would buy the house IF they would remove the streetlight.

They said buy the house and then we will talk. I replied sorry, but the light needs to go first. It sat on the market for six months after that.

Our realtor knew it was an issue up front. If your in the market for a house, make sure everybody knows your views on light trespass. The more it affects home sales the better the odds of people doing something about light trespass.

It took me 2 (Two) years to get my village to put-up a shield on the Streetlight next to my drive-way, it helps but I live just South of Chicago City Limits, and my Visual Mag. is <3, so you can see it's bad.
