Hi,
I used my 15x70 binoculars to make an observation and sketch of the nearest star today. Not been too much to look at in white light lately so this is a bit of excitement. The sketch and a brief report is posted here in the Solar forum.
I used HB and 2B pencils for the sketch and added the text after scanning.

Hi Michael,
Very fine white light sketch of our star and equally fine report under less than great conditions.

Thank you, Frank. The big active region flared about 3 hours after my sketch and hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) in our direction. There are some pretty neat images and even a movie of the event in the Solar forum.

Hello again,
Our nearest and dearest star is still putting on quite a show, both in white light and hydrogen alpha. Here is my latest sketch and report.
Like the first one, I made this sketch right behind the binoculars using 2B and HB graphite pencils on sketch paper. Blending was done with my finger and a stump.

Hello again,
Clear today and I was off so I got to make another sketch. Giant Active Region 1158 is still visible but will soon rotate out of sight. The sketch was done at the observatory with 2B and HB pencils. I blended the limb darkening with my finger. Sketch and report can be seen here.

Michael,
Yet another beautiful capture. It is time for me to take out my white light solar filter. I have not sketched the sun in a very long time.

Frank, Carlos, thanks! Frank, it's looking like you'll have more and more reasons for digging out the solar filter as the new cycle progresses.

Our run of clear weather continues. A new active region complex on the solar meridian has grown into a flare producer. Sketch and report are here. I used the same media and instrument as before.
