Sunspot group 1185 is the one that caused the X2 flare that might give us some northern lights tonight! I sketched the group this afternoon with graphite pencil on white paper through my 120mm f/5 achromat using a glass objective filter. The magnification was 75x (Vixen LVW 8mm). I later scanned the sketch and gave it a yellowish tint like the view through the solar filter.
I hope its shockwave will give us a nice light show tonight. Though chances are small, I can at least say I enjoyed looking at the sunspot group that caused all the excitement today!

Roel,
I was happy to see another one of your excellent white light sketches. The tinted version looks very cool.
They say that the incoming CME form the X-class flare will arrive today--look for the aurora tonight.

Roel,
An excellent and very accurate observation of the sunspot group 1185. The umbra and penumbra of the sunspot groups are recorded very nicely. The main central complex looks very interesting. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
