Rosette and NGC 2186

I decided to take advantage of the brief period of darkness to go after an object that's been on my list for a while now. I've seen the Rosette Nebula in the 10" before and although it appears highly structured, it loses something by filling the entire FOV. I decided to use the FirstScope to frame the nebula properly.

After the moon rose above the horizon I turned to nearby open cluster NGC 2186, which appeared as nothing more than a faint smudge with two embedded stars.

As always, nice job, Tenth

I think the Rosetta is too big for my FOV.

Thanks for the comments.

I've recently become impressed with how digital sketching can more accurately represents the view through an eyepiece. I attempted to get the same effect with one of my sketches, and here is the result. I'm thinking of posting my sketches in this style from now on and I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

TE,

Excellent observations of the Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237/2238/2239/2246) and NGC 2186. You have recorded both objects very accurately through your 10" instrument.

I believe your digital renderings are outstanding. I look forward to your future observations in any media.

Carlos
